Facing the Wall

"Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it."
~Michael Jordan

Today has been calm and quiet getting ready for tomorrow. Both babies have a big day scheduled for Saturday. Kennedy will try once again on CPAP tomorrow. She is bigger and stronger this time. 3# 11oz! Wow! Her ventilator settings have been minimal in preparation for this big day. As scary as it is, being on CPAP will be much better for her lungs.

The infectious disease doctor was by again this morning and has written orders for the spinal tap. We understand why this is necessary and we did have a feeling this was coming. They tell me it will be similar to my epidural. Let's hope that it is very quick and that he doesn't feel any pain. Little man isn't as big as sister yet. He is 3# 3oz and will be adding additional calories to his milk tomorrow. That should help him catch up to Kennedy.

Even though tomorrow is filled with obstacles, we are ready to face them head on and discover our best route to the other side. Drake and Kennedy will run through this wall.

  2. Drake and Kennedy will blow that wall to pieces! So young and already proving they can face and conquer anything this world gives them!

As always they will be in my prayers, but extra of course for the big day.

Love the pictures! They are so distinct and looking chubbier every day! Precious kiddos.

Thinking about you all with confidence Team Gilstrap will conquer the day. God is mighty and so are your babies :-)

  5. Praying for Drakes strength and yours as he goes through his procedure. Praying things go smoothly and he's back in your arms soon. Also praying Kennedy does well on her CPAP attempt. We were in the Dallas area yesterday and thought about stopping by after the water park but Ali ended up in the emergency room so we couldn't come see you and the twins. Hope today goes smoothly!

    Sending prayers and love!

  6. Drake run through the wall? This is the boy that takes his time... so he will just walk up to the wall, listen to it say he can't do it, and BAM the wall just poofs and disappeared into thin air. Drake doesn't let anything stop him as he is a little freight train saying "I know I can I know I can" as he is heading towards home slowly but surely.

Kennedy is also a little fighter just not as patient as her brother. Hopefully this time she is ready to conquer the CPAP and mark it off her list of accomplished items so far. She isn't the type to run through a wall, she just prefers to blow it up with missles before she gets near it. Just give that girl her milk and watch out world, here comes Kennedy!

Brian and Annie, you two are so blessed to have these two in your lives. The family you four have is going to do wonders for this world and touch lives all over. I can't wait to see what God blesses your lives with each passing year.

Thank you God for Drake and Kennedy and your continued protection and watching over them. Thank you for watching over Brian and Annie and keeping them strong through all of this. Thank you for watching over the medical staff and all the people reading this blog. And thank you God for giving these two fighters the strength to keep blowing these walls away!

Watch out world, Drake and Kennedy are coming out to play soon! :-)

  8. Prayers for Kennedy and Drake on their big day today.

I watched this little five minute video today and it reminded me of your family, both because its title is so close to your blog title, and its message is so applicable to your situation.

I appreciate your example of trust and faith and optimism. I pray that the Lord will continue to bless your family!

  9. I've been following your babies progress for a few weeks now after a friend put it on fb... Many times Ice thought about commenting but never had the right words. I, too, was a NICU mom bc my oldest son was born with E.Coli. I watched my boy fight for his life... So that part I understand... The best reassurance I can tell you is that my son is now an active 2 year old who has no memory of the NICU or his spinal tap or the IVs and PIC lines... Although I'll never forget it all I just stay forever grateful to the doctors who devote themselves to these tiny lives.... Constant prayers for Drake and Kennedy and for you and your husband!
