Full Time

Being a mom to two micro-preemies is indeed a full time job. Actually, it is a full time job with overtime but without the pay; however, the rewards far exceed the work load.

Today started out packing things up to transport Drake to the pediatrician, but luckily the doctor decided he did not need to come into the office. We were scheduled to go because Drake had not gone to the bathroom (pooped) in 5 days, but he finally did! This little boy makes me more happy for normal bodily functions than I ever thought possible.

I spent the entire afternoon on various phone calls advocating for both of our babies. Drake's birthday has been entered incorrectly which is causing a domino effect of other problems along the way. Eventually they will get tired of hearing from me daily and correct the typo. The extremely expensive synagis shots that are crucial for these tiny preemies have to be approved and administered every 30 days throughout RSV season (Oct-Mar). We just found out that our portion, after insurance, is over $600 per shot per baby per month. Through my calls today, I found out that Drake's is being processed and Kennedy's was not received. Two phone calls later, I remained on the line while her paperwork was re-faxed. They are both due for these shots on the 25th so we need them as close to that date as possible to help protect their fragile immune systems.

Tomorrow Drake's nurse has the day off so that she can celebrate Thanksgiving with her family while we celebrate with ours. We will miss her and be happy to see her on Friday when she returns.

  1. I LOVE how Harlee is watching over/protecting that sweet baby! So glad he went poop and you didn't have to make a trip to the Dr. I hope you all have a wonderfully blessed Thanksgiving! Enjoy your FIRST one as a family of four!

  2. I am so thankful that you all are home with both your precious angels! Syd still looks at their pictures all the time and cannot wait for that touchdown day in the future when they are big and strong enough that she can see them! Happy Thanksgiving! I know you have so much to be thankful for this year!

  3. Aw those precious lil tummies :-) happy thanksgiving. God will make a way for the shots and money and all the red tape. I will put that to prayer. (In the mean time I will ask my respiratory therapist friend if she knows of any foundations that have programs to assist with the shot funding part)

  4. So glad those babies are home!!!! They are always in my prayers. Just curious on Drake's feeding tube... has anyone discussed changing out the tube for a button? I know they have to heal from the surgery completely before that's an option, but it's made life much easier for us having the button with Wesley.

    1. We take Drake back to Dallas on Wednesday for a follow up with his surgeon. I am hopeful that he will be ready to get his button on that day!

  5. As soon as Drake gets set up with MDCP, his shots should be covered completely. He also should qualify for a 2nd season with it. Cade did, but Camdyn did not since she just had our private insurance. Glad to hear you only have to do the overnight stay. That's what we did. It was not pleasant but so worth it! MDCP covered all of his therapy visits and respite care hours too. My mom actually gets paid to watch Cade! Ask about respite hours and how many he will qualify for. You can also get MDCP to cover formula costs.

    1. Thank you for all of your help! It will really help once Drake qualifies for MDCP. Kennedy will be like your Camdyn and only have our private insurance, but $644 doesn't seem bad after you are expecting $1,288. As soon as his birthdate gets corrected, his process can begin. This is all still a new and foreign process and your words of wisdom are greatly appreciated.
