Extra Hands

We began a new chapter today, the start of Drake's At-Home Nurse. I've thought many times that I could get more accomplished if I simply had more hands, and today I did. Having an extra pair of hands around for 8 hours a day was such a nice treat. Now if I could only figure out how to make more hours in the day. Drake's nurse is very kind and eager to learn what works best for Drake and how we prefer to do things here at home. My mom arrived today too, so for part of the day the adults in the house actually out numbered the babies.

Another special treat this afternoon was a sweet friend brought over a yummy dinner. It was so nice to see a friendly face and visit even if it was for just a short amount of time on the front porch. She completely understood how very fragile Drake and Kennedy's immune systems are which prevents them from having visitors for a while.

We are looking forward to another great day tomorrow and being one day closer to Brian being back home.

  1. So the other day you made a comment about not knowing what the babies needed when they cried. You need to watch this video...saved my life with both my boys, especially with my micro when he was home on his O2 and apnea monitor. It's called Dunstan Baby Language. Www.dunstanbaby.com . They used to sell the video at Target but I haven't been able to find it here. I learned about it while in my education college courses years back and it is spot on! Also check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nv3-74EFtWQ. Oprah had her on her show to see if it was for real and she proved to know what she was talking about. After studying the sounds I would listen closely to the babies in the nicu and my son and each sound matched up to what was really wrong. His nurse even took to it and we had a happy baby from that point on! Hope it helps! So glad to see how we'll they are doing!!! We live in Houston and if you or Brian ever need anything when he has to come to town we are more than happy to help!

  3. Sounds like your day may have exceeded your expectations and that is lovely. I am sure having your Mom with you is a very real comfort. I am praying you have a smooth sailing kind of day as you grow in confidence.

  4. Oh Drake's cheeks are just so scrumptious, i love how cozy he looks with his gran :-)I and Miss K gets prettier everyday...what a blessed momma you are!

God is so faithful. He provides exactly what and who you need from front porch visits, to a nurse, to the never failing comfort of mom! And lets not forget, he brings daddy home safe every weekend :-)

I know you can already tell things will get easier. You have confronted and conquered many obstacles, so I am sure this adjustment is minor! I know i have said it before, but let things wait...make a calendar of "goals" like 1load of laundry after dinner, bathroom 1 on weds, bath 2 on sat...etc. that way nothing seems looming or overwhelming--sheesh listen to me! I need to take my own advice lol i let stuff pile up but never schedule the tackling out and totally feel overwhelmed ha! I can only imagine what it will be like for medinner/time in April when kiddo #3 arrives ...Trey and Mav are already lil tornados!! Hopefully God will see my need for a less inquisitive, less "messy" sweet pea ;-)

Keep up the great work Team Gilstrap. We are so very happy for all 4of you.
