Prayers to beat these infections!

Today has not been a good day in regards to their health.

Both Drake and Kennedy are fighting infections; it Is too early to know what we are up against, how serious it is, or the affects they will have. Kennedy's 3 cultures all came back as positive for infection and they identified the particular type as either staph or strep. She is being treated very aggressively with two separate antibiotics for the next 10-15 days. Drake on the other hand had blood results showing a drastic decrease in his platelets and white blood cells. They said with this drastic of a change, it typically indicates an infection. He is on four separate antibiotics to treat a broad spectrum of infection until they can narrow down more specifically as to which infection he has. They sent off his cultures and we should know more in the next 24-72 hours. Hopefully we are catching this very early.

In the next few days, both of them will now have to have an lumbar puncture test in their spinal chord to check for meningitis. They said this is done in babies that have gotten sick. If they test positive, they will be on a 21 day treatment; if they test negative, they will still be treated, but only for 7 days.

All of these antibiotics are tough on their kidneys and bodies, but we have to look at the greater good. It is kind of like a double edged sword, you have to take the good with the bad.

Now, lets talk about some happy times...Great-grandma and great-grandpa were able to visit their great grand babies...what an awesome feeling to have 4 generations in the room together! My aunt and uncle were kind enough to bring them from east Texas to Dallas to see Drake and Kennedy ...and us.

  1. Sending prayers (and a few tears as I read this). Lots of prayers coming for both sweet babies. I too hope they are catching this early and Kennedy and Drake responde well to the antibiotics. So glad you were able to have four generations together -- what an amazing thing, treasure it!

    1. Thank you, Theresa. Seeing them fighting infections is beyond difficult. Poor little Drake is puffy from all of the fluids, transfusions and medications. Your prayers are greatly appreciated.

  2. Committed to praying for little Drake and Kennedy and Dad and Mom through the good times as well as those that are challenging. Asking the Lord to bless those antibiotics to those precious babies and bring a halt to the infection along with extra strength for their tiny bodies to endure the meds. Thanks so much for the newsy updates and the adorable pictures. I read the blogs more than once and go back and look at the pictures over and over. Your sharing has endeared your family to countless of people and given us an opportunity to support all of you in prayer. The sweet senior adults that I visit at the nursing home on Sundays are even committed to praying for them!!! Drake and Kennedy are going to have lots of folks claiming to be grandparents and aunts and uncles! :)
