Kennedy was set to give CPAP another try today, but they decide to wait another day and lower her settings on the ventilator again. She was having some heart rate drops and saturation drops too. We also noticed that she looked a little pale so the doctor checked her blood. We found out that she needed a blood transfusion, and, on a brighter note, that she did not show any signs of an infection (which was another worry). They had to stop her feeds today for the transfusion, but they will start back up slowly once the transfusion completes. She had her first tantrum today, she was crying and wiggling like crazy. I changed her diaper and the nurse suctioned her tube. I wrapped her up and rubbed her head until she calmed down and fell back asleep. We rarely see her upset so this was definitely a first. She even had a little tear which is something they could not produce before. It broke my heart to see her so upset. I'm sure this was the first of many tantrums to come.
Drake still looks good. The infectious disease doctors have changed for the rest of the week and this doctor did not order a spinal tap. Hopefully this means he won't need one. Another good note for Drake is that his doctor said his heart murmur is much less noticeable. This indicates that his PDA is closing on its own! Let's hope and pray this is the case so he doesn't have to have a surgery.

Glad to see another day go by with things getting better slowly but surely.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the growing Drake and Kennedy :-)
Hate to break it to ya, but you are correct, lil girls are tantrum queens! Andio tell you what, my 11monthway old son has the sweetest disposition, but he isnt immune to tantrums either-- yay welcome to the glitz and glam of parenting :-). It breaks your heart now...just wait intil it is in the middle of Target ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing the things these two tough cookies can handle! I mean they are not even 31 weeks gestation are they? And kennedy is almost ready to breath on her own-- good work baby girl!
Drake's eyes in the pictures are so soulful...he is going to be a deep thinker and very conscientious i think! Which is a blessings bc normally little boys jump and then think mid air! :-)I am finding this out, being new to tge boy mom gig myself :-)
Im sorry you had a scare with Kennedy. I still cannot imagine what you are going through...times two...as a new mommy and daddy. It is obvious that you were hand picked for them to have a strong mommy and daddy. Keep it up team Gilstrap!
Prayers go out often and with positive conviction! !!!!
Love Kennedy's hair! I'm so happy you got to hold your sweet girl and calm her down and see her first tear drop. Even now with a 16 year old and 12 year old there are days I still have to do that! Great news that no spinal tap for now!
ReplyDeleteThey look great!

I'm laughing at Natalie's comment! Definitely remember these days and how thankful you are when your 2 year old is ripping all the books from the shelf and throwing them in the middle of the aisle at Target!
ReplyDeleteAnnie they are adorable- wide eyed and so alert! Love that Kennedy is showing her personality! Can't wait to see them in person! Miss you!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to see the twins. Kennedy is a beautiful girl and Drake is a cutie!

Continuing to pray for Drake, Kennedy and mom & dad. What progress they have made. To think we were praying for Drake's kidneys to work and the miracle that happened. And knowing there are many more miracles on the horizon. Love the pictures of them - they are such beautiful babies. Thank you for the continued updates and pictures. God Bless! Sandra
ReplyDeleteI am glad to see that Drake is doing well and so far no need for spinal tap (just sounds painful) and while sorry Miss Kennedy had a bit of a rough day, hope she will be feeling much better after her transfusion. Your family remains in my daily thoughts and prayers. <><
