6/28 Today is a new day!
Today is a new day!
A lot to update already this morning. Doctor said Drake's acidosis has come down and there is no growth in the culture they did checking for infection. Drake got his PIC line in at 10:00am and everything went great. He finally got to eat 1 cc of mommy's milk and will get some more at 2:00. So now both are getting fed again!
Kennedy had some issues with her heart rate dropping but doctors thought it was due to the tubes for feeding and to check gasses. They made some adjustments and she seems to be doing better.
Both have had their tubes through their umbilical chord for the maximum amount of time so they have to put in a PAL (peripheral artery line) in their wrists so they can draw blood. This is better than the alternative of having to do heel sticks every time to get blood. Drake did have to get his heel stuck yesterday so they could compare the blood from there with the sample from the umbilical chord...this was one of the saddest sights I've seen yet. You could just tell that he wanted to cry but couldn't!!!
More updates to come...

Ditto on the updates!!! It's so nice to know how they're doing without having to bother two very busy parents! I get teary eyed when I read pretty much every post! It's so awesome to see how God is protecting and providing for Drake and Kennedy.

ReplyDeleteThank you for the comments. I enjoy writing about my babies...obviously I like reporting the good news over the bad, but it also helps me by being able to talk about it. It can sometimes be emotional, but it helps by getting it all out.
Thanks for all the love and support, we couldn't do it without all the friends and family that care for Annie, myself and our two tiny bundles of hope!!!

I check on you guys (via your blog) every day but think of those sweet babies constantly. Hang in there! Much love to you guys!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Heidi! That's exactly what we need right now.
ReplyDeleteBrian and Annie,
ReplyDeleteThis is Chris Knight's mom. He sent me the news last night that your twins had arrived. First I wanted to tell you that Drake and Kennedy are absolutely beautiful. I know a part of your suffering since Chris' little sister Robyn was born at 28 weeks, and lifelighted away from me minutes later. She spent the first weeks of her life in the NICU at Hermann Hospital fighting this fight. Of course, Drake and Kennedy have a longer fight ahead of them. So, I also wanted to tell you that we've added all of you to our prayer list, and one of the greatest prayer warriers I know has passed your information up and down the entire state, so hundreds of people will be lifting you up for healing and strength. Congratulations, and God watch over you. Vicki and Arlie Shultz
